With reference to my Blog articles of ” Cooks’ Utensils” and “Brushes, cloths and string”, a number of you have written to me about the usefulness and beauty of old fashioned cook’s peg boards. Yes, I agree. I also agree with the number that have complained about their near extinction. They are increasingly hard to find, and the hooks that attach themselves to the holes are even harder to find. You need to track down a friendly high street hardware shop, or if you no longer have one, go online to find a shop fitting store.
I keep my cook’s peg board in the utility room, next to the fridges. Originally plywood brown, I painted it in Farrow and Ball Old White and it is now full of all the manner of kitchenalia. Nothing ever gets dusty, because it is in constant use, and in and out of the dishwasher. Useful, practical and retro. And you can’t beat that for old-fashioned cookery organisational skills.
