It’s a new year and new plans are in shape already for 2012. There are lots of new dates in my diary for interviews and workshops with butchers, bakers, cheese makers, farmers, food and drink retailers, writers and restaurateurs. I have been in contact with so many good businesses for whom the whole of life revolves around good food and drink. Although the newspapers print endless stories of economic Armageddon and meltdown, I am also hearing so many positive, energising accounts from many artisans and consumers who are carrying on with steely determination and collaborative goodwill. We all have to eat and drink, and there is much to celebrate and promote.
In addition, this spring sees the launch of The Foodie Bugle Lectures at the very beautiful Thyme At Southrop Estate near Lechlade, surrounded by Cotswold stone cottages, barns, kitchen and herbaceous gardens as well as an award winning pub and cookery school. We are bringing together ten speakers from the world of food and drink to deliver 15 minute speeches on their life and work, to a small audience, many of whom work in the media, or PR, publishing, design and food writing. Good food, drink and open conversation are the focal points of the day. It’s a chance for people from all parts of the industry to meet, compare and share.
Another venture that The Foodie Bugle has launched is that we would like to champion new, rural artisanal businesses. So we have asked people to get in contact and tell us all about what they are doing, where, how and why. With every new edition new artisans will be featured and promoted and their story showcased on social media. It is only by bugling the excellence of small, independent businesses, their growth, employment opportunities and plans, that we can bring about the resurgence of our economic fortunes. It’s not going to happen until we make it happen. I hope you will join me, I look forward to hearing from you at info@thefoodiebugle.com or on Twitter @TheFoodieBugle or @SilvanadeS.
All good wishes for a very happy and prosperous 2012.
Silvana de Soissons
