Top Ten Tips for Foodie Places to visit in Milano

1. Bakeries – the most important baker in Milan is probably Rocco Princi, and his bakeries are worth visiting just for their style, let alone their delicious breads. There are 4 of them in Milan, and the one near Corso Como is convenient if you are going to visit 10 Corso Como (see below). The four bakeries are in:

Piazza XXV Aprile 5, the most chic one, (near Corso Como)
Largo la Foppa 2
Via Ponte Vetero 10
Via Speronari 6

He has also opened one of his bakeries at 135 Wardour Street, London W1F OUT. The website is www.princi.it

2. Delicatessen / food emporium

Peck is the holy grail of Milanese gastronomy, at Via Spadari 9, right in the centre of the City. It’s restaurant Cracco-Peck is also wonderful. One of the most Milanese of food and wine shops with prices up to the ceiling and beyond. Website: www.peck.it.

3. Ristorante Antica Trattoria della Pesa.

In Viale Pasubio, 10 (telephone: 02 655 5741), established and never changed since 1880, this restaurant has on its menu the very best of “olde world” Milanese cuisine.

4. Ristorante Boeucc

In Piazza Belgiosioso, 2 (telephone 02 760 202 24 and website www.boeucc.com ), this is one of the most historical restaurants, quite formal, but very authentic in the classical Italian repertoire. The chef is Piero Berzelo, and he has been there man and boy.

5. Ristorante Da Giacomo

This is quite a trendy restaurant, funky decor, and very good seafood. It is in Via Sottocorno 6, in the centre. (www.dagiacomoristorante.it , tel: 02 76023313

6. Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia

This is one of the oldest eateries in town, husband and wife team, Aimo and Nadia Moroni. The ingredients are second to none, really good sourcing, not fiddled with. In Via Montecuccoli, 6 (website is www.aimoenadia.com , or tel: 02 416 886).

7. 10 Corso Como, Porta Garibaldi, Milano

A visit to Milan would not be complete without going to this shop / cafe / garden / restaurant. It is owned by Carla Sozzani, one of the most stylish woman in Milanese society, ex-editor of Vogue Italia. Her shop (named after the address itself) is a temple of all things stylish, groovy and wonderful. Interiors / exteriors and everything in between. 8. Cova

The patisserie here is lovely. Cream cakes, biscuits, pastries, sweets, chocolates. Heaven for the sweet-toothed. Nice cup of cappuccino too. Website: www.pasticceriacova.it . It is in very stylish Via Montenapoleone 8.

9. Fioraio Bianchi

So charming, a florist – cafe, this is like an old fashioned flowery tea-parlour. French music in the background, you can even have an aperitivo in the evening, it stays open till late. Magic. It’s in Via Montebello 7, and the telephone is: 02 290 143 90

10. Biffi

If you want to see Milanese society at its best, then this is the Art Deco place to come. It is a cafe – tea room – patisserie of the old school. The best apple strudel and dainty strawberry tarts, as well as the loveliest, lightest, crumbliest biscotti. It’s at Corso Magenta 87, Parco Sempione.

Making it happen, making it good.

Things don’t happen by chance. It’s all hands to the pump.
